Swim Families -

THANK YOU so much for helping make our first meet of the summer a success! It takes a ton of help to run swim meets and these first few meets also bring a lot of learning. I appreciate everyone who volunteered, offered additional help to someone in need, made sure swimmers made it to the bullpen, and cheered on our swimmers. We cannot do this without you!!

A few notes about scoring in our league:

• Only the first heat can score - swimmers get placed in heats by their times so who swims in the first heat will change as the season progresses 
• No team can "sweep" points for an event. So if a team finishes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd the third place points will go to the first swimmer from the other team.
• An "x" beside a time simply means it could not score due to the two rules listed above - this does not indicate a disqualification. 
• All ages can be disqualified (DQ'd) - DQ's are listed on the results sheet and you are encouraged to ask coaches if there are additional questions as DQ's are a learning opportunity. 8 and under swimmers get a little more wiggle room but they still have to be attempting the correct stroke, not touching the bottom, and finishing (nearly) correctly.
• Team score does not hold great value in our eyes during summer swim as team score relies on numbers more than effort. Our goal is for our swimmers to put forth effort, learn new things, and enjoy the experience. We will win some meets and lose others. The true success for our swimmers will come from learning new strokes, moving forward from a DQ, and dropping time in our events. My own kiddo got DQ'd in each of her events today but she was smiling the whole time - which in my book is a much bigger win than a blue ribbon. Remind your swimmers that you love to watch them swim!

As a reminder, tomorrow we are hosting guest speaker Amy Fulmer at 3 PM. If the pool is open & it is not raining we will meet at the bleachers near our swim team area. If it is raining or the pool has closed for the day we will meet in the shelter behind the pool at the bottom of the hill, shelter #3. I will send a remind message to update our location around 2:30 PM.

Finally, please remember to get signed up if you plan to attend our meet this Thursday at Versailles. Entries will close Tuesday at NOON as I have to send entries Tuesday evening. Thursday we will be meeting in Versailles at 5:30 P, warm ups at 5:45 P and races start at 6 PM. As always, you are welcome to request events or I can add events for your swimmer.
